Cellulite Reduction
Hello! My name is Lindsay Mullen, and I am Weight Loss Guide’s resident expert in the Cellulite
Reduction category. Today I’d like to address a problem that affects over 90% of women –
cellulite. Cellulite (excess
fat that accumulates beneath the deepest layer of the skin) can be a problem for thin, lean people as well as in those
who are overweight. Millions of men and women follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen, but are still afflicted by
frustrating dimpling on the thighs, buttocks, and other areas. We need more than a healthy lifestyle to help combat
cellulite and achieve smoother, softer looking skin.
Research and scientific evaluation have shown that there are promising possibilities in the
fight against cellulite, including dietary supplements, creams, surgeries, medical procedures, and spa therapies.
Unfortunately, many cellulite reduction treatments have been shown to not work at all, and others only generate
temporary relief. My research team and I have compiled an extensive comparison of several different cellulite
treatment options. Until now, there has been no reliable source where one can go to understand the options and
compare products and services. Below you will find a comprehensive list of cellulite reduction treatments and an
evaluation of each option based on six important factors:
- Cost
- Effectiveness
- Safety
- Quality of Ingredients (where applicable)
- Consumer Feedback
- Convenience

Recommendation: Strong Buy |
In comparison to other supplements reviewed, these gelcaps contain the highest amounts
of natural herbal ingredients clinically proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Cellumelt™ is made from
the most potent part of the living plant, not from the dried varieties or powders with less potency. Cellumelt™
helps increase circulation and blood flow, as well as strengthens connective tissue to eliminate cellulite. This
product also works to enhance immune system function (which is known to speed up the elimination of unwanted
substances in the body). All users of Cellumelt™ provided us with positive feedback – sleeker, smoother looking
legs and firmer skin after treatment. Long-term results seem promising as well. A 10 to 30-day supply, depending
on the necessary dosage, is available for $25.95.
Pros: The high quality all-natural ingredients make for a very safe
product with no side effects found. Consumer feedback was common and positive, mostly focused on Cellumelt™’s
visible effectiveness, speed of results, convenience and affordable cost.
Cons: No specific cons were found, but we wouldn’t mind seeing more
clinically-based research on long term results.

| BioTech Cellu-Rid |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: D |
Value/Cost Ratio: 50% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |

Like many of the products we reviewed, BioTech Cellu-Rid is said to work by detoxifying,
improving circulation, and promoting thermogenesis (the production of heat within the body.) Its ingredients
are a “proprietary blend” of seven herbs which combine to show only 200 mg total herbal content per serving.
Other products contain over 200 mg of just one ingredient within their blends. While some of the ingredients
in BioTech Cellu-Rid are safe, others are questionable. For instance BioTech Cellu-Rid contains Guarana, a
natural form of caffeine. While caffeine does act as an appetite suppressant and increases metabolism, its
negative side effects are well-documented and include nausea, insomnia, nervousness, elevated heart rate and
increased blood pressure. White Willow Bark (commonly known as aspirin) is also included in this supplement.
Aspirin is known for its harsh effects on the digestive tract, so this product should only be used with care.
A 10 to 30-day supply is $24.99.

Pros: As a supplement this product is convenient to use and it is affordably priced.
Cons: No customer reviews available, so there is no consumer-based evidence
for the long or short-term results. Some ingredients make it unsafe for extended use (such as Guarana and aspirin).
| Murad Firm & Tone |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: Fail |
Value/Cost Ratio: 0% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
Murad Firm and Tone is said to work by reducing and reversing cellulite dimpling
by rebuilding, rehydrating, and revitalizing skin. Research shows, however, that this supplement is
simply a very expensive multivitamin with added minerals, fish oils and some common herbs. Websites
promoting Murad Firm and Tone even explain that making a list of the ingredients and purchasing them
separately at a discount drug store could significantly lessen the cost. High cost does not necessarily
equal high effectiveness! This supplement contains tin and nickel, two heavy metals to which we are
already overexposed.
Pros: According to consumer feedback, Murad Firm and Tone is
helpful with mood and energy levels.
Cons: The biggest issue is high cost – this was by far the most costly
supplement in our review. An 8-week supply costs $270 (just the supplements) or $420 for (for the entire kit).
Possible safety issues of heavy metals, plus the lack of effective long-term results caused our team to not
support Murad Firm and Tone Supplement. Despite its claims, you should not expect cellulite reduction from
Murad Firm and Tone without the additional use of their other serum and cream products.
| Herbalife Cell-U-Loss |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: Fail |
Value/Cost Ratio: 50% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |

While advertising itself as a true cellulite reduction supplement, Herbalife Cell-U-Loss
later reveals that it only “helps reduce fluid accumulation in the body.” Other supplements use over 10 ingredients
and Cell-U-Loss includes only five, all of which appear to be extracted from dried (less potent) versions of the.
Cell-U-Loss does not include Gotu Kola, which is known as one of the most famous herbs for cellulite reduction.
During our research we encountered more negative consumer feedback about this product than with any others, at
times even being called a multi-level marketing (MLM) scam. Even the positive feedback stated that a combination
of strict diet and multiple Herbalife products were necessary to see a difference. Other reports stated no visible
results even when users were physically active and worked out regularly. Cell-U-Loss costs $16.75 for a 30-day supply.
Pros: The positives of this supplement are few. Because of the weak
formula and lack of high-quality herbs used, this product seems safe and affordable. However, consumers
cautioned that while individual products have low cost, the company attempts to lure buyers into purchasing
more and more products.
Cons: The consumer feedback was common and quite negative, and most
often points to Cell-U-Loss’s lack of results. Without being on a stringent diet which includes an expensive
combination of several Herbalife diet formulas, no positive results were experienced.
| Crystal Star Cellulite Release |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: Fail |
Value/Cost Ratio: 0% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
While Crystal Star Cellulite Release claims to strengthen connective tissue,
provide vascular and liver support, and eliminate excess waste, we were unable to establish any support
for this supplement’s claims. This company is extremely secretive about its ingredients – when attempting
to find the ingredients, we were instead prompted to order the product. The inconvenient dosing requires
six to nine pills a day for results, but medical sources* state that the proper usage of Anthocyanosides is
only two 80mg capsules per day. Also we were unable to find any consumer feedback on this product. No
reports of effectiveness or results of any kind were found. One bottle lasts almost one week and costs
$19.95. (Thus a four week supply is almost $80.).
Pros: If one of the ingredients is from the blueberry/cranberry
family (though we do not know for sure), then it may be beneficial for the body in some way. We cannot
comment on the effectiveness of this product in cellulite reduction.
Cons: Our greatest concern is the lack of information available
for this product. No user reports (positive OR negative) were found. The secrecy about the ingredients
and the warning that it can “only be taken for 2 months at a time” both suggest that the quality of
ingredients and the safety of the product are questionable. Crystal Star Cellulite Release is also more
costly than most other cellulite reduction supplements.

CREAMS, LOTIONS AND GELS
| Cellutone |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: Fail |
Value/Cost Ratio: 25% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |

The makers of Cellutone are certainly unique, being the only company that bases
its entire product on the “whole egg” concept. They claim to use the egg’s vitamins, minerals, and
proteins, combined with some essential oils, to create an effective cellulite treatment. While we
understand that eggs can have some healthful benefits, we have found no evidence that those components
have any long-term results in the reduction of cellulite. In their list of ingredients, only one (Juniper Berry)
has been traditionally used in other effective cellulite treatments. While a unique approach is commendable
in this competitive market, it should not come at the expense of effectiveness. Pictures and testimonials on
the Cellutone website were very positive, but when examining more objective reviews, consumer feedback was
much less frequent or positive, indicating very poor (if any) results. Cellutone costs $52 for a 4-oz jar.
Pros: Application of Cellutone is convenient – it is a cream that you
apply after showers/baths. The ingredients are listed and, though they are not proven to reduce cellulite,
they do appear safe and even healthful.
Cons: Most of the ingredients have not been proven to be effective
in cellulite treatment. Consumer feedback (other than the testimonials on their own website) is not
favorable. Compared to other similar products, the cost of Cellutone is relatively high.
| Chanel Precision... |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: Fail |
Value/Cost Ratio: 0% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
According to its advertising, Chanel Precision Body Excellence Firming and Shaping Gel breaks
down cellulite and evens out dimpled skin. However, we could not find an explanation of how those results are
achieved. The company does not reveal the ingredients used, saying only that it contains an “exclusive anti-cellulite
ingredient.” Most anti-cellulite creams suggest stimulating cell circulation and lipolysis (fat burning), but these
processes were not even mentioned. Very few consumer reports were found. The reviews we did find stated that the
product smelled good and/or softened skin, but had no effect on cellulite reduction. Despite the brand’s good reputation,
it seems that this cream is a costly, yet ineffective formula. It was the most expensive cream reviewed, costing $75
for 5 ounces.
Pros: Though we are uncertain about the actual ingredients contained in
this product, we will assume based on Chanel’s history in the skin care field that their product is safe.
Cons: The little consumer feedback we were able to find was negative,
stating that the product provided no real results in diminishing the appearance of cellulite. It was also
the highest priced of all the topical creams or gels.
SURGERIES, MEDICAL PROCEDURES and SPA TREATMENTS:
| Mesotherapy |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: B |
Value/Cost Ratio: 25% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
Mesotherapy is a micro-injection of medicine into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin).
The medicine shrinks the fat cells in the cellulite, improves circulation, and breaks down damaged connective tissue.
For an average patient, 10-25 sessions are necessary in order to eliminate all visible cellulite.
Pros: Mesotherapy delivers results. No anesthesia is required, and
mesotherapy can be performed in a doctor’s office – it is not a surgical or invasive procedure.
Cons: It is a time-consuming venture – each session takes approximately
one hour, and 10-25 sessions are necessary for the average patient. If you’re not a fan of needles, mesotherapy
is certainly not ideal. If not performed by a reputable medical professional, a patient can run the risk of injury
or infection. Side effects include: slight burning after the injection, numbness (lasting days or weeks), and
bruising and/or swelling at the injection site.
| Liposuction |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: C |
Value/Cost Ratio: 25% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure during which layers of fat are removed from
the body, revealing thinner/firmer legs, buttocks, stomach, arms, etc. In this procedure a rod called a cannula
is attached to a powerful vacuum and it is used to remove fatty deposits.
While liposuction is very helpful in the removal of fat from the body, it is not
always effective as a cellulite reduction/removal treatment. Cellulite fat is wrapped in a mesh-like
layer of connective tissue, and the cannula used in liposuction often cannot break through that tissue
to get to the cellulite.
Pros: Liposuction can deliver visible results in fat loss and body sculpting.
Cons: It is an invasive and risky procedure that may not actually eliminate the
appearance of cellulite. Liposuction can also be very expensive. Side effects include: bruising, swelling, temporary
numbness, and discomfort in the treated areas. As with any surgical procedure, the risk of complications is worth considering.
| Fat Injections |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: D |
Value/Cost Ratio: 25% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
Fat injections take the opposite approach of liposuction – rather than removing fat,
this procedure involves injecting fat into the skin to smooth out dimples and bumps from cellulite. Fat is
normally taken from other parts of the body and injected into the necessary area(s). Fat injections were
first created and used for the treatment of wrinkles, but now they are also used to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Pros: Fat injections deliver results. Anesthesia is not required, and fat injections
can usually be administered in a doctor’s office – the procedure is not surgical or invasive.
Cons: Fat injections deliver only short-term results. Once the injected fat is
fully absorbed into the body, the appearance of cellulite returns (normally in 4-8 months). Redness and/or scabbing
can appear at the injection site. Complications including uneven texture of the skin, infection, abscess, and
scarring are rare but possible. Fat injections are also expensive.
| Spa Therapy Massage |
Cellulite Reduction Speed &
Effectiveness Grade: D |
Value/Cost Ratio: 25% |
| Purchase
Recommendation: Not Recommended |
Various massage techniques have been developed to reduce the appearance of
cellulite. Some use deep kneading to stimulate blood flow and circulation, temporarily reducing
the appearance of cellulite. Others use rollers and a gentle suction system – this increases blood
flow, restores collagen function, and stretches connective fibers.
Pros: Massage is a safe, non-invasive, pleasant experience. It can be
conducted in a spa, so there is no need for medical offices or hospitals.
Cons: Most massage treatments deliver only short-term results because
they only treat the surface. In addition, treatments are recommended twice weekly, and it can take 15-30
treatments to see significant results. At 45 minutes and around $100 for each session, it is a huge
investment in both time and money.
Based on our extensive research of supplements, creams/lotions/gels,
surgical/medical procedures, and spa treatments, we have concluded that the most effective
solution in eliminating the appearance cellulite is Cellumelt™. With its high concentration
of quality ingredients, clear and straightforward label, overwhelmingly positive user feedback,
and affordable price Cellumelt™ Cellulite Reduction Pills should be your first choice in
cellulite reduction treatments.
